Alex Gibson
Alex Gibson joined the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in June 2000 to work primarily on web development and user interfaces. Specific project work includes:
- Cellular Observatory Data Acquisition and Information Management (CODAIM) - Mr. Gibson developed a web site that allowed scientists to access information about their projects from any computer that has a web connection. He also developed a programming interface so that other applications could access the web site and retrieve the information in a useable form.
- Scientific Archive Management (SAM) - Mr. Gibson constructed additional tools for the new upcoming version of Scientific Archive Management Explorer. He developed a file and metadata search tool for searching files that scientists stored on the data archive.
- Proteomics Research Information Storage and Management (PRISM) / Hydroacoustics - Mr. Gibson created a web application that would allow users to access contents of a widely used hierarchical data format for storing scientific and technical data that were stored on a central server. This information could then be looked at and searched through using a web browser and the web site he developed.
- One-Stop Evaluation Web Site - Mr. Gibson created a dynamic web site using a database that would keep user information, the web site questions, and the users' answers to the questions asked on the web site. This allowed questions to be changed in the database and then reflect the change immediately on the web site without modifying any of the code for the website.
- E-mail Analysis Capability (EMAC) - Mr. Gibson analyzed the possibility of modifying an existing web interface in the RetrievalWare program and adding more functionality to it. He was able to add the ability to Save and Load the queries the user created and export the documents that the user found in a query in multiple formats.
