Epifluorescent Microscopes with Digital Image Capture
For cellular investigations by light and epifluorescent microscopy, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's (PNNL's) Microbial Cell Dynamics Laboratory (MCDL) houses two Nikon optiphot microscopes equipped with a Spot RT CCD digital camera and a digital video CCD camera. The public domain software, Scion image, is used to capture images and use automated features, such as cell counting and calibrated measurements of cells and biofilms.
